I need legal advice, where can I go to contact an attorney/lawyer?
If you have immigration questions that may require a consultation with an immigration attorney, we recommend that you first contact your ISO Advisor regarding your student visa status. Your ISO Advisor can then provide you with a referral list to local immigration attorneys who have worked with MIT students in the past.
If you have a civil law matter (such as questions concerning forming a startup or a business matter; landlord/tenant disputes; etc.), or a criminal matter (such as being arrested by the police), that are not only immigration related, there is a link to local legal services available to students here.
Please note that some criminal matters, even just an arrest, can have consequences for your immigration/visa status. Therefore, we recommend that you be in contact with your ISO Advisor so that we can be sure you are receiving proper guidance and referrals as needed.
